Sometimes due to virus in system, folders appear as shortcut files and when we try open nothing gets open, to avoid this -
Navigate to the file explorer where the folders displayed as shortcut files.
Click on Tools --> Folder Options --> View tab
Uncheck the "Hide Protected operating system files (Recommended)" option.
You will be getting your original folders as hidden folders, copy them to new folders and after delete the hidden folder and the shortcut folders, with this you can view some blank folders which can be deleted also.
NOTE - if none of the empty folders not able to delete, download Unlock software and delete those folders.
The concept behind these above problem is - if you type in command prompt as "attrib +s +h\" by which the folders will become invisible and can not be visible even after enabling "show hidden folders" in tools --> folder options.
